Honda Phantom
Harley Davidson indeeds became one of American greatest legend with it's classic style motorcycle. But, it doesn't mean that no other country has classic bike. Japan is an example.
Honda Phantom is an example of Japan's classic style motorcycle. It has already succeed sold in some country such as Thailand in South East Asia.
Honda Phantom - Thailand
Honda Phantom is the most popular big motorbike in Thailand and chosen as favorite touring bike. Built under license here in Thailand they are tough bikes, ultra reliable with a very good turn of speed and above all very comfortable to ride. Also, in the very unlikely event of mechanical failure they can be repaired almost anywhere in Thailand.
The Honda Phantom
With electric start, single cylinder, four stroke engines with six gears and a top speed of 155 km/h. Tubeless tires, alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes and crash bars are some of the features. With a long wheelbase they will give you a comfortable ride on Thai highways.

I had one of these bikes for 1 week when the cam chain tensioner failed without any warning whatsoever, causing the piston to hit the valves requiring a total engine rebuild. The engine had only covered 2600km from new! and I was left stranded in the dark for hours waiting to be rescued by my wife and the trailer. As the bike was out of warranty Honda refused to accept even partial responsibility and now refuse to speak with me on the matter. I have searched the web and other forums where the cam chain loosening is a well known problem (Check Phantom Knights) Beware this cam chain tensioner is also used on other Honda motorcycles and has the potential to fail. I even wrote to Takeo Fukui CEO of Honda in Japan who refused to reply to my requests for help so when you consider buying Honda remember that a company with such a good reputation for quality will hide their heads in the sand should anything actually go wrong and fail to support the customer even after repeated requests, e-mails and letters. Don’t even get me started about Honda MPE in Victoria, the correspondence I have had with them has been a joke! I bought a Hyosung instead after many disillusioned hours wasted with Honda and now resort to periodical reminders to their customer DIS-service department (Speak with Lincoln Bowdern on (+613) 9270 1265 if you want to be completely ignored) that the Hyosung DIDN’T explode after 2600kms of light use. Shame Shame on you Honda! All it would have taken to convert an unhappy customer to a loyal Honda rider would have been a little co-operation possibly a discount on the parts I needed to rebuild the bloody TA200 or even a suggestion from their sales department that I ring them to talk about a trade in, my local Hyosung dealer GP Motorcycles in Adelaide have been excellent and I can’t praise them highly enough for offering to take the pile of junk off my hands and help me on to a nice new bike well done guys and the bike is great. The last I heard the TA Shadow was repaired and the parts took nearly a month to come from Japan on back order, this would have cost me well over $1000 to fix which was almost 1/3 what the bike cost me so watch out, check that bloody tensioner each time you get on the damned thing, better still sell it and buy anything else, maybe that way Honda might see how their arrogance has let them down, tell this story to anyone you can think of!

I need a handbook in English for Phantom fire edition, incidentally just completed 3,500 km around N Thailand, good fun nice bike for its size, don’t think 155 kmph is achievable though. Help appreciated.

To chris ive read youre story somewere else to..late respons.
I find it lack of braincells what you write down here.
Quote ” As the bike was out of warranty Honda refused to accept even partial responsibility ”
Was OUT OF WARRANTY…there the story you write should end allready
Iff that bike run 2600km and is out of warranty then something had to be wrong to begin with. I bought the Honda Phantom Fire edition. I get 3 (!!) years guarantee on the engine. This includes offcourse iff the tensioner fails on me. Afterall fucks up the engine..guarantee states 3 years on the engine.
So i dont know were you bought yours, certainly not FROM a certified dealer !! Then at the end of youre story after it obvious you bought a monday morning bike ( shit happens)
Quote “have cost me well over $1000 to fix which was almost 1/3 what the bike”
You paid $3000 ? for a bike that that was new ? no…because its out of warranty. So secondhand i presume, ahum i paid for mine *NEW* in store..and newer model even then yours for sure. This is including the guarantee of 3 years (NO XTRA COSTS FOR THAT!)
$2712 its safe to say that youre fucked till the bone my friend!!

I’m a Sri Lankan poor guy whose having a dream of Honda Phantom. Finally I found one for an affordable price for me. Price of the bike is USD-1,500 (Wish to obtain a loan facility of USD-1,000). But its a used one imported from another country. My seller says its 150cc & made in Japan. But one side of its tank has damaged & the left-rear signal also broken. And also I noticed that several corrosive bubbles has appeared on the handle. I watched that one week ago and don’t know whether it has already sold or not. I wish to go for a advance payment on next Tuesday and really wanted to know followings before advancing.
01) What is the fuel consumption of this type bike?
02) Will that kind of a bike worth for the cost ?
03) How about the maintenance cost ?
04) Is this type made in Japan ?
05) How long I would be able to use this (milage) ?
Please guys,
GIVE ME A GOOD ADVICE ON PURCHASING OF THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOU ALL.
Regards,
Geeths.
